Just wanted to share the new light in my life. Yesterday we rescued  an African Grey from craigslist. As you can see he is in pretty rough shape. He is mostly plucked, with only his wings, tail, and head left with feathers. He has plucked away at himself because he was previously kept in a cage with no toys and in a room away from any kind of contact. He was kept isolated from the world. He mostly speaks swear words and frequently tells himself to shut up. It really breaks my heart to see him in such bad shape and him repeating the horrible things said to him.
Yesterday was his first day out of his cage,  he is seven years old. He was unsure of what to do at first but quickly began climbing all over it. He attempted to fly a little but his wings are not developed from never using them. He is a little aggressive out of fear, but is desperate for a friend. We eat the same diet so in sure we will be best buds in no time!
It is really upsetting to me that people can be so cruel. Parrots are like 2 year old children and need constant love, attention, and stimulation. Scuttle is like an abused child. With time, love, good diet and a lot of attention hopefully he can be healed. I will keep posting updates on how he is progressing.
Before you decide to go to the store and buy an animal, please think about rescuing one first. Be the light that an animal may never get the chance to see. Be their second chance at happiness.

I Am Man, Hear Me Roar November 2, 2011

Today at the beach I witnessed a horrible scene.

A man was fishing near me and caught a shark. He struggled to bring it in about 20 minutes and when he finally tired the being out he dragged it to shore.
Upon the sharks arrival the man proceeded to scream “this is why we do this”and and stood over the creature flexing his muscles to show his domination. This is man. The human is in this constant determination for dominance and control. We see it everywhere, human vs human, human in politics, human vs animal. The fight for control is constantly there. Until man lets this go there will never be peace. We can not live in the harmony and tolerance everyone is preaching about until we give up the need for control and the need to dominate. Until this need is released, the peace so many of us seek will never be found.
Before we occupy streets we need to occupy ourselves.

Fake Flesh Eaters October 29, 2011

So the other day my boyfriend purchased a “Primal Strip”. For those of you who dont know it is a vegan form of “beef” jerky made with textured soy. I was curious to see what it was about so i bit off a small piece. Within the first 5 seconds it was in my mouth it was spit out the window onto the highway. It felt like I had animal flesh in my mouth. I had this eerie grotesque feeling come over me like I had just bit into an animal. I couldnt believe vegans/vegetarians ate this.

I guess what I quite dont understand is why as a vegan or vegetarian you would want to pretend to eat an animal? Being a raw foodist I never come across this, but most vegans and veggies eat fake meat products to imitate the real ones. Working in a health food store I see fake fish, fake chicken wings, fake beef….. If we are so against the eating of flesh why pretend to do it??

I welcome all comments, agreeing or disagreeing.

Getting “Hit” With Inhumanity October 8, 2011

Last night my world was temporary shattered when my best friend Cologero (my dog) was hit by a car. He survived, but I would like to share this story with the world because it shows what a lack of respect people today have for animals.

Every day when I get home from work I let my dog out and go across the street to retrieve the mail. As I do this my dog will stand at the side of the road and wait for me to come back. Yesterday as we were fulfilling our routine a car came extremely fast up the hill I live on. Driving on the shoulder of the road, I witnessed my best fried get violently rammed into.  My dog went flying to the grass and the mans front end was all over the road. I ran over to see my four legged friend staring up at me unable to move.

The man kept on driving. In fact, he didnt even slam on his breaks. As I lay on the side of the road shaking with fear screaming for anyone to help while hovering over my dog, my neighbor comes out because he thought he heard a gun shot. He ran over to help me. The man in the car finally stopped about a half mile down the road and just sat there for 5 minutes as I lay crying, my neighbor consoling me.

Finally the man in the car returns to the site and gets out. “You hit my dog!” I scream behind my cries. His response? “I want your information I’m filing a claim against your a** for damage to my car!”  The man was accompanied by a women in the passengers seat and 2 children in the back.

I won’t get into the details of what happened next in our argument.

I wanted to share this story because I am absolutely dumbfounded by the lack of care and respect this man hand towards a fellow human being, and a fellow earthling. He did not even put his breaks on when hit Cologero. He didnt care if he was ok, or if I was, or if I needed any help. He only cared of his worldly possession and the plastic parts of it that were demolished and scattered about the road.  This is what our race has evolved to? Worldly possessions are valued of human and animal life. We see this every day.  People care about their leather seats and purses over the cow, and cheaper product over the slave labor.

Forget about a revolution or a change in the country. Nothing is going to happen unless we first look inside ourselves and get rid of our selfishness and want for control. Until we start respecting everything and everyone on this earth the same, no change can occur.

Cologero is miraculously ok. How, I have no idea. He has road burn and a large gash on his under jaw and a cracked tooth, but today is walking around as if nothing had happened going up and down the stairs and on and off my bed. I always tell everyone hes my “Sweet Sweet Angel”, and Im sure this proves it.

You Are What You Eat October 5, 2011

Today as I went for a hike with my dog, I sat in the woods and looked around me. The plants, the trees, the earth. Its the most beautiful thing ever to be. I started to think about my journey of raw foods, and about myself as a child, a teenager, and now as an adult. I have always had a connection with the earth, but not like I do now. I thought about my personality, and how it has changed and how it hasnt. What I noticed most was my change in attitude, temper, stress level and inner strength. Since being a raw foodist, I noticed that my stress levels have dropped drastically, my temper is non existent compared to what it was, my attitude is always positive, and my inner strength is as strong as it has ever been. I feel more spiritual than ever, almost the way I was as a small child. I truly believe all of this has come about due to my increase in raw plant foods and a decrease in flesh consumption. Here are my thoughts on the matter.

Temper: When we think about where our flesh product comes from, most of us consume it from factory farms. We have to think of the animal we are consuming in order to better understand its emotion. When an animal is being tortured, fed the wrong food, and witnesses the death of its friends, it no doubt feels anger and resentment towards humans. If this does not seem possible to you I encourage you to watch videos of animals being slaughtered in front of one another, and you will see their reaction highly similar to that of humans, only difference being of course, animals do not speak the same language as us. When we then consume that animal, we are consuming all of the negativity inside that animal. We are consuming the DNA of another creature. It has now become a part of us. We must also take into consideration that the burger you are eating does not have the DNA of just one cow, but the DNA of up to 1,000. Consuming this much anger from many different animals has got to take a toll us in some way whether it be physical or emotional. When looking around the woods at all of the living trees and plants, taking in their beauty, and feeling their vibrations, it is great to think that I take on that positive high energy vibration.

Stress Level: Animals endure intense amounts of stress when they are being bred and slaughtered and therefore release a lot of cortisol into their system, which we then consume. Many people complain of their increased levels in cortisol from their own stress, but then proceed to consume more of it at their meals. Eating a diet rich in raw plant foods not only eliminates this factor, but also builds your stress defense shield. Foods such as Maca and Goji Berries do just that and increases your bodies ability to cope with stress.

Inner Strength: I feel the reason an individual becomes so much stronger on a plant based diet is the simple fact that it forces the body to create certain things. In other words, it forces it to problem solve and work. Yes, plant foods are much easier to digest, but look at it this way. When you put animal fat into your body, your body recognizes it as fat and processes it as fat. When you put  a plant fat into your body, since plants are so low in fat, your body must figure out what the fat is, where the fat is, how it van be utilized, and must use inner power to create the fat. Another example of this could be a caffeinated beverage. (Yes this is a plant source, but it will clear the subject). When one consumes caffeine, your Central Nervous System becomes stimulated. You begin to act quickly without having to put much thought behind your action because the caffeine is forcing you to do so. In a way it is making you lazy. The caffeine is doing all of the work. When you yourself decide to act quickly, steadily, and with high concentration, you take energy from your inner self to create that ability. It is making your inner self stronger. Also think about a plant. They absorb the sunlight and produce their own food themselves. The vibrational energy and cellular activity within a plant is incredibly high due to this fact alone. The reason we feel so energetic is not just based on the vitamin content of the plant, but also based on this fact. When plants are consumed just after being picked, you will notice a completely different type of strength and energy running through your body than if you were to pick it and eat it three days later.

Attitude: With stress levels at their minimum, my temper low, and inner strength high, of course my attitude towards life is going to be quite positive and uplifted.

I am in no way saying a plant based diet is for everyone. I am not asking you to change your diet to that of a plant based one. I will however ask you to think about the people you know who are on a high animal based diet, those on a medium, and those on a plant based diet. Compare them in the above attributes. Do the heavy meat eaters seem lazy with a lack of will power and negative attitudes? How do they compare to the individuals who only consume meat a few times a week. How about compared to those on a plant based diet?

Then do the final comparison: Those on a cooked plant diet vs. those on a raw plant diet.

Im sure your own findings will speak for themselves.

Hear No Toxins, See No Toxins, Speak No Toxins September 24, 2011

This morning I was driving in my car to bring someone some tasty raw treats and I was listening to my favorite musical piece, Beethoven’s 9th symphony. It got me to thinking about the music culture of today. There is absolutely no comparison.

When listening to works by Beethoven I think about how genius it is, and how it could actually be possible for one man to create such beauty. You can feel the passion behind each and every note as it blossoms out of the beautiful instruments. When the opera singers key in and bring together the entire piece, it almost brings tears to my eyes. I began to think what an excellent role model this man would be.

Today’s mainstream music is produced on a computer with not one person touching an instrument. The computer does everything. The lyrics of the music are enough to make a person sick, with every other word being a cuss word, a made up word, an unfinished word, or a sexual reference.

Our society went from looking up to people like Beethoven and Chopin to looking up to half naked people grabbing their private parts singing about sex and drugs. There should not be a wonder of why our society is the way it is, and why the youth of today is so vulgar with a lack of education, and a lack of wanting to thrive for one.

As the years pass it seems that the people our society praises just gets worse and worse. There are no more philosophers of today, there are no Albert Einstein’s or Rudolph Steiner’s, just vulgarity. It saddens me to see where this may lead. The youth of today are our rulers of the future. I know I would much rather have a Rudolph Steiner who listens to Bach be in charge than a person who cheated through school listening to vulgar music.

This entry may not be about physical health like my others, but this is about mental health and your ability to refuse to let the vulgarity continue. In order to become enlightened we must first clear all the dirt from our bodies and minds. Toxins are not limited to the foods we consume. Toxins are found in what we read, what we listen to, and what we see. Don’t just clean up your diet, clean up your mind.

Kansas and CAFO’s May 5, 2011

Filed under: Journal Entries — eyeofraw @ 8:28 PM

Driving cross country is amazing. You see many different things along the way. The midwest however, has got to be one of the most boring parts of the US to drive through. Its pretty much corn field after corn field.

As my friend Christie and I were driving through Kansas, we came across this mini town that was literally less than a mile long filled with broken down homes and trailers. I stated how its probably an illegal immigrant shanty town where the factory farms go and pick up their under paid workers from. 5 miles later we approach the CAFO. I couldnt believe my eyes. You smell it first. The horrible stench practically singe your nose hairs, making your eyes water.

It was the saddest sight my eyes have ever known. Sure i’ve seen pictures and video footage, but nothing compares to seeing the breathing animals just standing there. My eyes welled up with tears.

We of course are asking ourselves, why does it have to be like this.

well, we should look in the mirror for that answer.

This happens because we want bacon at breakfast, burgers at lunch, and steak for dinner. We are being made and molded to believe that we need meat to be satisfied or healthy. This just isnt the case. We never ate meat 3 times a day. Even 30 years ago people ate meat only once a week, and before then it was even less. Why is it they are shoving down our throats that we need meat all day every day?

I dont really want to go off on a tangent about the dangers of meat for the human body. I know however, that not one person can argue the fact that meat is horrible especially when being consumed more than a few times a week. Animal protein takes up to 3 days to leave the human body which cause fermentation of the food. This leads to many disorders and disease, ranging from brain fog to cancer.

Please, stop and think about the food your eating. This is your steak. This is your burger. Is your 5 minutes of satisfaction worth the torment of another fellow creature? is it worth the disease you develop later?

So im in the airport on my way to colorado. My bakpack is loaded with Goji, Chocolate, and seaweed. I loaded up on the megahydrate this morning so i wont need to consume bottled flouride liquid. I look around at my surroundings to see what others are eating for breakfast as I munch on my apple.
This is what I see.

The high fructose corn syrup double whammy!

Chocolate muffin and chocolate milk….

Imagine starting your day on 100% sugar… a lot of us do. This is why we crash! This is why diabetes ia running rampid! Imagine starting your day eating the best food you can get your hands on… completely unprocessed and living! YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!
I know I would rather be an apple than a muffin. Or a Goji berry over HFCS…. What would you rather be?

I will be updating posts my whole trip.. especially on the drive back to NY!
